Good morning!
Today is Thursday! But it’s not just any Thursday; it is Thanksgiving!

Whew! Thanksgiving is one of the busiest days of the year because, on top of preparation for food – it’s about cooking, sharing, and eating! If your family is anything like mine, everyone cooks something and shares it with the rest of the family. We actually have a contest…the best side dish wins the “turkey” trophy. It’s kind of fun to try and outcook each other.
This year I am attempting to make a sweet potato souffle. I have studied the recipe, and I bought the ingredients, and today (this morning), I am going to make it. I’m excited, yet a bit apprehensive.
I’m not a cook.
I did not get that talent from my mother. My mother was an excellent cook! When I was little, my parents would be in the kitchen preparing for Thanksgiving at least two days before. They would ask the older, married siblings to bring side dishes; however, most of the side dishes were made by momma and daddy.
I am worried about this sweet potato souffle. It’s my first time making this. Last night, I stared at all of the ingredients and sighed deeply. I looked in the freezer to find a “Plan B” for a side dish. I found Brussels Sprouts, Cauliflower, and Broccoli that I can roast in the oven. I would sprinkle sea salt and drizzle extra virgin olive oil before baking. That would be a healthy yet boring side dish, and I wouldn’t win!
I guess it’s not about winning, but sharing. In fact, I’m not that worried about the trophy at all! I’m excited to see my family, laugh, chat, dance, and love on each other! We have had our share of family losses, but we are grateful for the family members who have been added through marriage and the babies!
So, I’m not worried about my souffle. Heck, I’ll still bring it along with my roasted vegetable medley. If I win, that’s great, and if I don’t, I even win – because I’m with my family!
Oh…it’s going to be a disaster! Why didn’t I stick with rolls and corn?
Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving!
Oh…and…
GO, COWBOYS!!!
